okay the local NOW chapter is still very much meeting in October. The day is the 23rd which is a Sunday. Previous posts had the incorrect day.

Quad Cities NOW

Set your sundial and dayplanner....... Quad Cities NOW is meeting in October. The 24th, a Sunday, from 1:00 to about 2:30.  Main topic will be the caucuses and the Illinois Primary. Rep Schilling has to be a one termer!!

Future topics: social networking as an activist tool; social security/medicare/medicaid; the repeal; of DOMA; and please bring ideas to the meeting.

Still on the scout for a open/free/and accessible location. I will post that on all 3 FB pages, the Iowa NOW web site and this blog.

on the mend

Had the cararact surgery Tuesday the 20th. all went super duper. Got home around 10am, slept much-most of the day. Had a major nausea moment about 8pm. Felt soooo much better,  atho the cats had no idea why I was making such horrible noises in the bathroom.

And discovered the right eye now has better vision than the left. will be getting a new prescription in a few weeks

End of October In start more dental work. Crowns and impressions for a new partial.

Oh what fun!

Yes it has been toooo long between posts. Here I am in Wash DC at the Natl NOW board meeting. Day one is over and alot was accomplished. going down to the bar and enjoy a drink with my sisters. I will make a longer and more involved post tomorrow.  I have a 2 hour window at the airport.

sowing and reaping and reaping.....

Many decades ago, my mother planted Yucca's. Small catuses that looked nice for several years. As the years moved into decade 2, they had (the yuccas) traveled way past orginal planting points-multipled and gotten way bigger. And the care-maintaining of the little critters was akin to eating tin foil, while putting needles under your finger nails.

So Mumsy decided that the yuccas had to go. So, she, me, Pooba (my dad) and others spent many-many days-weeks-months attacking the yuccas. Shovels, axes, rakes and many garden tools managed to almost de-yucca the front and back yard.  This process took several years. Time warp to April 2010, and the big boom, followed by the caving-in and rebuilding.  Time warp to last week and while visiting my sister (now living in our rebuilt home) we look down in the yard and see a small yucca plant. AAAHHH. The house blew up was on fire and a new foundation poured.  The yuccas live on as does our Mumsy.

Oh what a fun day Thursday was and will be in my mind.AAGGG. Went in for my 3rd deep scaling (mondo teeth cleaning), forgot it was also the day of my "sick" tooth extraction" Lots of novicane, lots of crunching, pulling, Black & Decker tools, and whammo, tooth is out. I bleed for about 3 hours, napping in-between. And the joy of the day came as I looked into the mirror-smiled  w/out my partial and another tooth missing...which leads us-you-me to the title of this post........it was "instant" Halloween costume.
Thank god-goddess the cats don't seem to notice.

If I get to bored over the weekend I might go to the mall and frighten small children. ahahahha

Worked the weekend, Saturday quiet, sunday hectic. Did some cleaning, repapered some of the kitchen draws, almost finished a "memory board" for one of my residents, and baked a cake for Sunday's evenig snack.

today, had a busy am, pulled a few weeds, got the recycling out, vacummed, dusted, pitched out more crap and got more ready for a resale shop.

Tomorrow, (my day off) is laundry, mowing and more weed pulling. Yeah hah

This is not the most exciting post....so lets spice it up....Gov of Texas and a possible Prez candidate is sponsoring a huge prayer rally. One of the invited speakers believes that Japans Emperor slept with a serpant sun demon, which has caused Japan's economy to suffer. And another believes that Oprah is the anti christ.

I self censored abnd did not use a bad word. Yeah. Busy day off.  Morning was mondo teeth cleaning (deep scaling), pretty much novicane and a oral sandblaster.  Late moring was lunch, between the 2 I worked on the Iowa NOW newsletter-communication piece-please send money-join up. Almost done and will send off to Janis and Jean for editing and input.

found a nice sale and Barnes/Noble (very sad they are going away) picked up several gifts and very nice sale prices.

Got home, got some ice water, got out of my clothes and decided to do a blog post. And yes, Virginia I am sitting here typing and booty naked, with a fan blowing on my booty naked self.  For those far to curious,  I'm middle aged, white, pudgy and for sure not a porn star.

Next post  I have no idea.

Honk'in hot summer day post

1st post since the NOW conference. Lots going on with work, chapter stuff, house cleaning. Working with national NOW to get the region more alive. There are 2 new activists in Iowa and both are keen on getting the local chapters moving.

This summer will be have medical things for me. New teeth, crowns and cleanings. not cheap!!!. Right eye has a catarac, this is from the de-tached retina from 10-09. Good news is if the boo boo is removed then Rt eye vision takes a big leap forward.  will post again when cooler

possible final post from the conference

Well I did  the best I could and was able to post each day on my blog or on my FB page. The conferecne was awesome!!!! Not one bad thing or down note. started with the picket of Marco (one term wonder) Rubio's senate office.
He voted to kill medicare!!!.

All the workshop were packed. Great speakers. Met Pat Schroeder!!.  The dance last nite was mondo amazing fun. 

C-SPAN covered the Saturday afternoon plenary. Local news and papers were at the conf all weekend. Start making plans and save those pennies for next year 2012 in Washington DC. . A Big shout out to the LOC and National officers/staff/interns for making this one of the best confs in many years.

my continuing post from the NOW conference in Flordia

Last nite was his-herstoric with the passing of the gay/equal marriage bill in the New York legislature. Boo Yah for NY. Had a great dinner and conversation with my roomie Gordon. He is national board member from Minnesota. Could not ask for a better roommate.

This AM` went to an intersting workshop on men and their part in the feminist movement, identifying as feminists, and how it impacts our lives and relationships.

4 good speakers brought their experiences and knowledge to the topic. Took notes on a few books I want to check into and also picked up a possible contact in North Dakota.  I would though respectfully disagree with the term, "male feminist" I am a feminist and it has llittle or nothing to do with my penis. My feminism is in my heart and soul, not my pants..

This afternoon is a political plenary. Several amazing women running for office. late afternoon workshop and tonite the traditional NOW dance and party.

I learned at the social media workshop to cross post more things, so I am cutting & pasting this blog post to the note section on my FB page, and will also mention both on the Ipwa NOW and QC NOW FB pages.

Here at afternoon plenary and Pam Spaulding ( Pam's House Blend blog). Went to a workshop on social media. There is so much technology and amazing ways to connect-communicate-organize thru social media. having an up to date, interactive, and user friendly web site is critical. It is thru the website you can promote your FB page, blog, and twitter.

You can fund raise from your website, do on line petitions, organize actions, and increase membership. Linking to other websites, Linking to local websites and FB pages. Maintaining an active-current-creative FB page.

An awesome idea was to look for a college student with a background in techno-computer stuff, And access their skills to help create and maintain a state website and or FB page.
96 million people are connected via e-mail, web sites, FB and twitter.

I hope Iowa NOW will get on the social media train, before it is going so fast we get left behind.

Here at the NOW conference in Florida. AWESOME!!!!. We/about 200 people picketed right wing tea party Senator Marco Rubio. Lots of media, and public support. A very great start to what is for sure to be a fantastic conference.

2nd post from Tampa

This is my 2nd post on the NOW conference. Today was the national board meeting. Full agenda,  committe reports, PAC report, membership is growing. Had a very good racism training. Discussion around how NOW can engage women of color and bring more WOC into the feminist movement. 

The conference is going to be extremely well attended. Over 600 pre-registered and ususally up to 100 to 150 show up for on site registration.  Lots of great workshops and a protest at Sen Rubio's office Friday morning. Sue from  Iowa City is here and she is excited about jump-starting the chapter.

1sat post from Tampa/Natl NOWv Conf

I arrived in Tampa rhis afternoon. Flight this morning was delayed over and hour. Finally took off and got to Chicago minutes before my flight took off for Tampa.  Flight to Florida went fine. Hotel is very nice, Embassy Suites. Rooming with fellow board member Gordy from Minn NOW. great guy, very funny-easy going.

Tomorrow is the board meeting. Looking forward  to seeing all my board sisters.

Did look around and there is a pool and hot-tub. and Yes Virginia I brought my swimsuit.

Will do longer posts as the conference picks up speed. We are picketing Sen Marr Rubio. Very right wing, anto choice, anti GLBT, voted to privatize medicare. also supports DOMA and DADT. Boo hiss!!!

I don't have the energy to come up with cute or witty names for each entry. I most likely won't be entering...ahahha, entry....entering..ahahha, Hey shut up its my blog Virginia and I say its funny.

Things to note, it has been over a year since mom passed. Most on FB or from my work know the circumstance so I won't relive-tell the story. For those unaware, in  A word, "Boom". Do miss her very much, as with dad. He passed almost 18 months to the day of mumsy.

My cousin out east lost her mom about 3 1/2 years ago. Altho because of the alzhemiers she was gone long before the actual passing. Sue said in an e-mail that even after 3 years, the holidays are not the same. Ditto.  This reads as sad, but I also choose not too be selfish. Both mom/dad were healthy the huge majority of their lives, neither saw their quality of life or mental health put them in situations where total care was needed. Dad did spend about 7 days in a nursing home, but was very well cared for by the staff.

Mumsy left suddenly, but til the end was alert, mobile, independent and happy. 
81 years for him and 83 for her. Miss them yes, but to feel cheated or denied, that is the selfish. We move forward. We live on, remember with smiles, and that keeps them alive.  

Wow wasn't that one of the most fucking depresing things to read, and my my blog.

You all know that Newet bankrolled the anti gay marriage people in  Iowa. They were the wingnuts that helped defeat the IA supreme court judges that made gay marriage okay. And that Newet divorced his 2nd wife during her cancer surgery.

Tim Pawlenty (T/Paw) is anti anything progressive. GLBT rights, abortion rights, etc. And he has all the charisma of a corpse on valium.

Working different shifts so posting is going to sporadic. Please forgive typos. I had retinal reattachment surgery in Oct 2009, and add to that some minor dyslexia and typos are will occur.

Random thoughts:
1: Too all media outlets, stop covering D Trump and he might shut up! He is a wing nut cartoon character.

3: State legislators (male) are for the most part appear to be obsessed with a women's uterus. Passing all kinds of stupid-intrusive-written against actual medical advice legislation. I would warm them that pay backs are hell. Their female counter parts could start writing similar bills requiring the video taping of prostrate exams, require pharmasists to give lengthy speechs about the side effect of Viagra.  Exams involving erectile dysfunction would also require video taping and a second staff in the room for insurance purposes. 

It would be kind of  odd ( and sort of fitting) to find and or watch yourself and bare booty on a you tube video.  

4: Last month Oprah has as a guest Nayda Suleman AKA Octomom. Lots of hand ringing and tears and and and...........WAIT... Yes class it is time to review. At about the same time as Ms Suleman was all over the news, 29 year old Desmond Hatchet of I believe Tenn or Ark, was in court and at that time had fathered 21...I repeat 21 children.  There is an NBA player who has fathered over 11 children.

Yes Ms  Suleman made a decision that many/most struggle with understanding. But to willing father 21 children?? By the 4th baby it is clear both your penis and sperm work just fine. Does the word condom come to mind? Does even the thought of birth control enter into the picture or is it true, a stiff prick has no conscience?  Ya makes babies usually with 2 people. Someone has to be the "adult". Can we? Should we?  Having children should  NOT just be a sidebar of sex!

Hello, this is David and I am a feminist and NOW member in Iowa. I just created my own blog.  I'll post as often as time allows. I work about 50 hours a week and admin 2 FB pages.

I will be slowly adding pics to other stuff to the blog. It won't be overly fancy but will have a strong feminist-liberal-progressive point of view.
